Effects of γ-radiation on chickpea (Cicer arietinum) varieties and their tolerance to salinity stress

چکیده

Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is a bisexual and self-pollinated legume. It improves the soil fertility through its natural ability to fix atmospheric nitrogen with symbiotic bacteria. Salinity one of most important abiotic stress factors affecting plant growth. γ-radiation very effective tool for inducing mutations in many plants. This study evaluated effect on germination, cell division growth first-generation Seeds seven chickpea varieties were irradiated doses ranging between 50 Gy 600 Gy. Non-significant differences germination percentage recorded seeds exposed Gy, 100 200 comparison corresponding controls except ILC 484. The mitotic index (MI) root cells increased at low comparing reduced higher all control. All induced variable range chromosomal abnormalities; common bridges, laggard chromosomes, stickiness metaphase, chromosome breaks, micronuclei binucleate cells. 300 degradation nuclear membranes. salinity treatments 25 mM NaCl 60 seedling’s cultivars. dose alleviated impact concentration varieties, FLIP 84-188 97-263. treatment significantly early cultivars was not by γ-radiation.

The effects of salinity and sodicity upon nodulation and nitrogen fixation in chickpea (Cicer arietinum).

Production of grain legumes is severely reduced in salt-affected soils because their ability to form and maintain nitrogen-fixing nodules is impaired by both salinity and sodicity (alkalinity). Genotypes of chickpea, Cicer arietinum, with high nodulation capacity under stress were identified by field screening in a sodic soil in India and subsequently evaluated quantitatively for nitrogen fixat...

Shoot traits and their relevance in terminal drought tolerance of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.)

Chickpea is the second most important legume crop largely grown under semi-arid tropics where terminal drought is one of the major constraints for its productivity. A trait-based selection had been considered more beneficial in drought tolerance breeding to overcome the environmental influence on drought yields. Large number of traits had been suggested in literature, with less indication on th...

GENETIC DIVERGENCE IN CHICKPEA (Cicer arietinum L.)

Genetic diversity of 27 chickpea genotypes was studied through Mahalanobis D and Principal Component analysis. The genotypes under study fall into five clusters. The cluster II contained the highest number of genotypes (11) and Cluster I contained the lowest. Cluster I produced the highest mean value for number of pods per plant. The inter cluster distances were much higher than the intra clust...

Ultrastructure of organic acid secreting trichomes of chickpea (Cicer arietinum)

LAZZARO, M. D., and THOMSON, W. W. 1989. Ultrastructure of organic acid secreting trichomes of chickpea (Cicer arietinum). Can. J. Bot. 67: 2669-2677. The acid-secreting trichomes of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) were composed of 18 cells, including 1 basal cell, 3 elongate stalk cells, and 14 head cells. A subcuticular secretion chamber with cuticular pores was present above the head cells at ...
